Sakya Care Foundation Scholarship

Sakya Care Foundation (SCF) loves to promote philanthropic work amongst the youth. To encourage altruism and care for one’s community, SCF is excited to announce our first C.A.R.E scholarship (Compassion, Altruism, Respect, Excellence)

Scholarship amount: $500

This scholarship is intended to sponsor two prospective volunteers (one high school and one college) and is to be used specifically for mission fees for the upcoming Parahita* Humanitarian Medical Mission 2020 to Vietnam and Cambodia. The $500 US dollars will be used to offset your total cost of the mission.

Eligibility:

1. A current high school student or undergraduate student of any nationality who demonstrates the passion of service to others.

2. Must be enrolled full-time in a U.S. high school, university, or college.

3. Must have an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or above.

4. Recipient also intends to participate in the entire duration of Sakya Care Foundation Humanitarian Medical Mission 2020 to Vietnam and Cambodia.

2. Write a philanthropic essay: Submit a 300-500 words essay on the philanthropic work you have done in the past and or are currently doing and why you have chosen to participate in such activities.

3. One letter of recommendation from a teacher, school counselor, or community leader. Please send to scholarship@sakyacare.org

***Deadline for submission: On or before March 1, 2020.

***Award selectees will be announced on April 1, 2020.

You are NOT eligible if you are:

– Immediate family members of Sakya Care Board of Directors, Core Officers, or a part of the Scholarship Selection Committee members.

Other Volunteer Abroad Scholarships

1. GO OVERSEAS VOLUNTEER ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP

Go Overseas offers two $500 scholarships for volunteers to travel abroad in the spring and fall each year—travelers are invited to do volunteer work with any organization of their choosing, or even craft a custom trip with a local NGO that inspires them. The award is (most often) distributed directly to the volunteer organization itself, which ensures that the funds are used entirely for the project.

2. COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD : Golden Key Study Abroad Scholarships

Golden Key provides $1 Million scholarships and grants for volunteering abroad for its members. The Golden Key Community Service Award is delivered for the members with impactful services towards the community. The applicant for this grant is selected according to his/her leadership as well as his/her involvement within Golden Key, his/her academic performance, and financial need.

Application Eligibility: Current FT or PT undergraduate or graduate Golden Key members.

Scholarship Award:Multiple $2000 awards will be granted.

Application Requirements: The applicant has to:

* Be an active member of the Golden Key.

* Have accumulated community service’s 100 hours throughout any non-profit org.

* Being enrolled in a degree-granting program is also required.

3. SARAH’S WISH SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Sara’s Wish Foundation scholarships are awarded to young American women who exhibit qualities of leadership, service, and adventure. Formed to honor the memory of college student Sara Christie Schewe, who was killed in a bus crash in India during a semester abroad, the scholarship defrays the costs associated with traveling to all areas of the globe. Recipients perform public services, contributing to the welfare of the world. Applications are available online October 1 though March 1, and typical awards are $1,500—$2,000.
